FAQ
Find practical answers about accounts, credits, timelines, safety and classroom use.
What is The Universal Timeline, and how is it different from Living Timelines?
The Universal Timeline is a shared alternate-history story that the community builds together. Start with the opening moment, explore contributions around the globe and add what happens next. Each published moment has an AI-generated consequence for another writer to build upon. Living Timelines are individual timelines you create and manage. The Universal Timeline connects contributions from different people in one public journey, with alternate branches to explore other possibilities. Its stories are imagined history, not accounts of events that actually happened. Explore The Universal Timeline →
Is The Universal Timeline free, and do I need an account?
Reading, exploring the globe and contributing moments are free. You can read without signing in. To contribute, sign in with an eligible personal account; personal accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. Optional illustration and saved AI narration generation use credits. Existing illustrations and narration can be enjoyed by everyone for free. Free contribution checks may queue when capacity is busy.
What is the difference between Continue this story and Start an alternate branch?
Continue this story adds the next moment to the current path, responding to its latest consequence. If you are viewing an earlier moment, choose Go to the latest moment first. Start an alternate branch opens a crack in history from the selected moment. It explores a different response to that moment’s consequence while keeping the existing path intact. Both choices must connect to the story they follow, and both support immersive reading.
How do I write the next moment and respond to its consequence?
The heading identifies the moment you are following, and the contribution form shows its consequence and the prompt for what happens next. Describe how people respond and what changes, then choose a date, story location and public pen name. After submission, automatic safety and continuity checks assess your contribution and prepare its consequence. Once published, that saved consequence becomes the next writer’s starting point. You do not need to generate a separate scenario.
What order do moments appear in, and what if someone contributes before me?
Published moments appear in the order they are added. Their historical dates describe when the story takes place; they do not reorder the contribution list. The application manages the sequence, while AI checks the story’s continuity and consequences. If someone continues the same path before your submission is published, your submission may be marked as needing revision because the story has moved on. Use the submission controls to adapt your saved words to the latest consequence or explore an alternate branch.
Do I need to enter coordinates for my moment?
No. Choose a suggested place or pick a position on the world map to place your moment. You can keep the suggested place name or rename it for your story. Renaming the location alone does not move the pin. Latitude and longitude are available under Advanced location · coordinates if you want precise control. Locations belong to the story, not your device or current whereabouts. The map uses modern coastlines as a reference.
Can I spin the globe and find where a moment happens?
Yes. Drag the globe to rotate it and explore the pins. Choose a moment from the journey or browse list, or select Show on globe , to focus on its story location. You can switch between Globe and World map . Use Reduce motion if you prefer less animation, and search the browse list to find moments, places or pen names.
Can I read the main story and alternate branches in immersive mode?
Yes. Choose Experience the story to open the immersive view and move through moments with their text, location, author and consequence, plus any saved illustrations and narration. This path follows the route leading to the selected moment. All moments includes contributions across branches in the order added, with a notice when a moment follows a different branch. Moments without illustrations remain readable as text.
How do illustrations work, and who can generate them?
In immersive mode, choose Generate Illustration for a moment without a saved picture. The image is generated from that moment’s content and story context. Only the moment’s author can generate its illustration; the founder manages the opening moment’s illustration. Illustrations use the same credit pricing as Living Timelines. The current cost is shown before you confirm. Once saved, everyone can see the picture for free. You can leave a moment without an illustration, and other contributors do not have to add pictures to theirs. Credits are reserved when generation starts and returned if it fails or the generated media is rejected by checks. If a request is interrupted, refresh its status before trying again.
Can I listen to moments, and does narration cost credits?
Read Aloud is free where supported by your browser or device. It reads the moment and its consequence using the available speech controls. Saved AI narration is a separate option using the same credit pricing as Living Timelines, with the cost shown before confirmation. The moment’s author can generate it; the founder manages narration for the opening. Everyone can listen to the saved result for free. The saved voice is AI-generated. Signing in alone does not give permission to generate media for another person’s moment. Failed or rejected narration generation returns its reserved credits.
How are Universal Timeline contributions checked, and can I report a moment?
Contributions and generated consequences go through automatic safety and story-continuity checks before publication. Your submission status explains whether it is queued, being checked, published or needs further action. Follow any available revision or appeal controls. Automatic checks can make mistakes. While signed in, select Report on a moment and explain the concern. Reports trigger further checks; a report alone does not automatically remove a contribution. Founder controls remain available to hide or restore content, and hidden moments keep their place so connected story paths are preserved. Published moments and your chosen pen name are public. Avoid including private personal information. Use Share moment to copy a link to an exact contribution.
Can I give feedback after a guided tour?
Yes. After a tour you joined finishes, you can choose Give feedback or Not now. The one-minute questionnaire is entirely optional: skip any question, or close it and continue exploring. You can also find it beside a recent completed booking in the tour panel. You can submit one response per tour. Feedback is linked to your account and tour. It is private to authorised moderators, not anonymous or a public testimonial. Moderators see ratings, common issues and comments without account identifiers in the feedback view. Responses are removed with tour records by daily cleanup once the tour is 90 days old, or when your account is deleted. Skipping feedback never affects access or future bookings.
What are Historical Worlds, and how do I join?
Explore Alderwick, Whitechapel 1888 or Titanic 1912 — Life Aboard. Choose a destination in Worlds, then select its Join button. Sign in with a confirmed adult Nexus Historia account, choose a display name and a character suited to that destination, and enter the shared world. Each multiplayer room holds up to 16 visitors. You can also choose Explore on your own or read the historical discoveries without joining multiplayer. Explore Historical Worlds →
Which characters can I choose?
Each destination has its own period-appropriate wardrobe: medieval appearances for Alderwick, Victorian clothing for Whitechapel and 1912 passenger clothing for Titanic. The chooser offers 12 appearances and six outfit colours, with varied gender presentations and skin tones. You can preview your choice before joining. Appearances are not exclusive reservations, so other visitors may choose the same one; your display name helps people recognise you.
Can I walk freely and talk to other visitors?
Yes, in all three worlds. Free exploration does not require a tour booking. To meet other visitors, sign in and join the shared world; Explore on your own is separate from multiplayer. Text chat is visible throughout your current room, not just to nearby visitors. Visitor voice chat is not enabled. Guide narration is separate from visitor chat.
How do I book a guided tour?
Select Book a guided tour in your chosen world, or open the guided tours page. Sign in and reserve a place on a published departure. Each group has up to 16 places. Times appear in your browser’s local time zone. Hosts publish dates; visitors choose from those dates rather than setting their own. If no dates appear, no upcoming sessions are available to book. You can still explore independently. Browse guided tours →
How long are the guided tours?
Alderwick with Edmund lasts 15 minutes across six stops. Whitechapel with Arthur Whitmore lasts 81 minutes 21 seconds, approximately 82 minutes, across nine stops. Titanic with Thomas lasts 17 minutes 34 seconds across 17 stops. These are the prepared group timetables, including movement and time at stops. Exploring independently has no tour timetable.
Can I ask Edmund, Arthur or Thomas questions?
Use Ask Edmund, Ask Arthur or Ask Thomas to browse and search prepared answers based on that destination’s sources. Answers include source links and distinguish evidence from interpretation. This is a searchable collection, not live AI conversation or voice chat. Your search stays in your browser, and a scheduled tour continues while you read.
Does a booked tour start and finish automatically?
Yes. Each group starts at its published time and finishes according to that destination’s timetable. Booking does not automatically open the world: return to the destination and select Join tour. You can join up to five minutes early; new bookings close at the start. Follow guide moves you with the tour, while Walk independently lets you explore as the group timetable continues. Other visitors appear only when they actually join the tour room.
What if I am late, disconnect or need to cancel?
A reserved visitor can join while the tour is still running. Reopen the booking panel and join again after a disconnection; the tour resumes at the group’s current point rather than restarting. Use Add to calendar to keep the appointment and Cancel booking if you no longer need your place. Tour rooms are separate from ordinary free-exploration rooms, so visitors outside the tour do not automatically join the group.
Who are the guides, and is their narration live?
Edmund guides Alderwick, Arthur Whitmore guides Whitechapel, and Thomas guides Titanic. They are fictional digital guides with prepared, AI-generated narration. Edmund uses OpenAI’s Cedar voice; Arthur and Thomas use ElevenLabs voices. Thomas does not portray Titanic’s historical captain, Edward Smith. Select Listen to guide to enable narration, or Mute guide to turn it off. You can read the transcript in the tour panel. The narration is recorded rather than a live conversation; visitors can discuss the tour through text chat.
Do Historical Worlds and scheduled tours use credits?
Exploring Alderwick, Whitechapel and Titanic, using their text chat and booking their current prepared group tours are free and do not use generation credits. Generating a personalised Audio Tour in the Historical Map is a separate feature with its own credit cost. Check the displayed booking information for future destinations.
How do reporting, moderation and blocking work in shared worlds?
Submitted chat is screened automatically; flagged messages are held for human review. Use the report control on a message to raise a concern. Block chat prevents chat between you and that person in both directions and remains in place after you leave. Blocking does not hide their character or guarantee a different room. Moderation can miss things: avoid sharing private information and report inappropriate behaviour.
How do I move, adjust sound or use a less animated view?
Drag to look around, use WASD or arrow keys to walk, and Q or E to turn. Touch controls are available on phones. The walking controls and map help you explore; a booked tour also offers Follow guide. Still mode reduces animation and automatic movement. Atmosphere provides the settings available for that destination, including graphics and ambient volume. Village sound, Street sound or Ship sound enables the destination’s ambience. Guide narration has its own Listen to guide and Mute guide controls. Background sound softens during narration, and occasional local effects stay quiet or pause so the guide remains clear. Whitechapel’s optional dramatic effects have a separate control.
What device do I need, and will my discoveries save?
Use a browser and device that support WebGL for the 3D worlds, plus an internet connection for shared rooms and bookings. Performance varies by device; try lower graphics detail in Atmosphere if movement is slow. If 3D is unavailable, the historical discoveries remain readable. Each destination has its own discovery journal, saved in this browser and synced to your account when you use the shared world.
Is Alderwick a real historical village?
Alderwick is a fictional educational reconstruction of an English village around 1300, not a replica of a specific real place. Discoveries distinguish historical evidence from interpretation and include sources. The people, buildings and guide are part of that reconstruction.
How do I explore Titanic or join Thomas’s tour?
Open Titanic 1912 — Life Aboard to explore on your own, or sign in with a confirmed adult account and choose a passenger appearance to join the shared ship. Book a guided tour shows host-published departures for up to 16 visitors. Thomas’s prepared tour lasts 17 minutes 34 seconds across 17 stops, with AI-generated ElevenLabs narration, moderated text chat and optional feedback. Separate built chapters use labelled transfers rather than invented connecting corridors. The small wireless room provides a clear close-up view with visitor avatars hidden; your group and text chat remain connected. Thomas is fictional and the spaces are interpretations informed by reviewed plans and historical sources, not an exact reconstruction. Explore Titanic →
When can I visit Whitechapel 1888?
You can explore Whitechapel 1888, choose a Victorian character and join the shared world. Arthur Whitmore’s narrated tour follows nine stops over approximately 82 minutes. Sign in and select Book a guided tour to see published dates; a place can only be reserved on a scheduled departure. The experience centres the women’s lives, the local community and the investigation, distinguishing evidence from interpretation. It discusses murder and violence against women without graphic reenactments. Street layouts and buildings are interpreted rather than exact reconstructions. Explore Whitechapel 1888 →
Can restricted classroom learners join shared Historical Worlds?
Shared Historical Worlds are part of the adult Nexus Historia experience. Restricted classroom access for learners aged 13–17 does not unlock adult community features or shared-world chat. See the education policy for the separate classroom experience. Read the education policy →

💬 What are Nexus Messages? NEW
Nexus Messages is the member chat system for Nexus Historia. It is designed for historical discussion, creation sharing, and safe community conversation. Private messages let you talk one-to-one with other Nexus members. Message requests protect first contact, so a new conversation opens only after the recipient accepts. Historical Circles let members discuss eras, scenarios, and shared creations in group conversations. Live status shows when a member is online, when someone is typing, and when your sent message has been seen. @mentions help pull Circle members into a specific question or thread of discussion. Creation sharing lets you send scenarios, StoryBooks, videos, morphs, calls, Time Portal images, timelines, and Living Timelines from your archive. Nexus Guide offers historically useful prompt starters inside Circles, so discussions stay focused and era-driven. Messaging itself does not cost credits. Creating the items you share still uses the normal feature pricing.
How do message requests work?
When someone contacts another member for the first time, Nexus uses a request flow instead of opening a fully active chat immediately. Incoming requests can be accepted or ignored. Outgoing requests remain pending until the other member accepts. You can send an opening note, but normal back-and-forth messaging starts after acceptance. Once a private thread is active, sent messages can show a Seen status after the other member opens the conversation. If a private conversation feels unwanted, you can block that member.
What are Historical Circles?
Historical Circles are group conversations built around Nexus Historia topics. They work like a familiar social chat, but with a history-first flavour. Circle types Private Circles are invite-only and useful for friends, classrooms, or focused projects. Community Circles are discoverable by signed-in Nexus members and can be joined from the Messages page. Historical templates help start era-driven rooms such as Ancient Rome, Medieval Worlds, Ancient Egypt, World War II, StoryBook Creators, and Scenario of the Month. Circle controls Circle details show members, roles, safety status, and your own Circle identity. Owners and moderators can invite members and manage the roster. Members can mute a Circle, leave it, react to messages, mention each other with @name, and report messages for review. Circle headers can show how many members are online, and message rows can show whether a post has been seen by some members or by all.
Can I share creations in messages?
Yes. Click the paperclip or Share Creation button in a thread or Circle to pick from your recent Nexus archive. You can share scenarios, StoryBooks, Video Studio creations, morphs, Time Portal images, call recordings, audio tours, timelapses, timelines, and Living Timelines. Sharing a private item into chat does not automatically publish it to the public gallery. If an item already has a public or unlisted link, the chat card includes an open button. If an item is private, the chat shows it as a private archive item without exposing a public link. For Scenario of the Month , share public scenarios in the SotM Circle and use the Public Gallery to vote. Private scenarios need to be published with public consent before they can work as public vote entries.
How is messaging kept safe?
Nexus Messages has safety built into the flow, especially for first contact and public community spaces. AI moderation checks messages before they are posted. Reports are saved for admin review, with the message, reason, and context. Message requests let users accept or ignore first-contact conversations. Direct blocks stop unwanted private messaging. Circle controls let members mute or leave a Circle at any time. Message actions include copy, report, hide/delete from your view, and a short unsend window for your own recent messages. Reactions are Nexus-themed, such as Intriguing, Insightful, Archive-worthy, Respect, Counterpoint, and Epic. The goal is simple: make Nexus feel like a lively historical community while giving members clear control over who can talk to them and what gets reviewed.
Can I try a timeline before signing up?
Yes. Try a Timeline offers free written examples with a historical starting point, a changed assumption and possible consequences. No account or credits are needed to explore this preview. The examples are prepared content, not a new AI generation. Choose Build my version of this timeline to carry your selected starting idea into the creator. Creating and saving your own work requires an eligible account; generation costs are shown before you start. Restricted classroom learners should use their teacher-issued code at Learner sign-in .
How do I continue a scenario or reopen a saved Living Timeline?
On a saved scenario, choose Generate Living Timeline to open its starting moment. Creating that starting timeline uses no extra credits. Repeating the same scenario handoff opens the existing linked timeline instead of creating a duplicate. Return to Living Timelines while signed in to the same account, open your saved timeline and select a moment to continue from. Save manual edits before leaving and wait for generation to finish before starting another action. AI choices and consequences have their own displayed costs.
Are Living Timeline illustrations and narration private?
Images and narration follow access to their Living Timeline. Private timeline media is available only to people authorised to view that timeline. Setting it to Unlisted or Public lets people with access to the shared page load its media. Change visibility back to Private and save to stop new public access. This cannot remove files someone already downloaded or content already loaded in their browser. Share the timeline page rather than a direct media-file link. Restricted classroom work uses its separate learner and teacher access rules.
Which Living Timeline actions use credits on a personal account?
Creating a starting timeline, reading it and manually editing it are free. The current standard AI costs are: choices 1 credit; applying a choice and generating consequences 2; branch suggestions 1; auto-extension 2; illustration 3; narration 2. Historical Perspectives replies use 1 credit per 10 successful replies, shared across advisors. Check the quoted cost before confirming an action. A failed choices, consequences, suggestions, auto-extension or advisor request restores its reserved credits. An interrupted request can take around 20 minutes to reconcile; service delays may take longer. Reopen the timeline and check for a saved result and your balance before retrying. A delayed response does not always mean generation failed. Learners aged 13–17 use different institution credit rules , with no personal purchases.
What are Living Timelines?
Living Timelines are interactive, branching timelines built from a historical question. Each timeline starts with a root node and can use one of three lenses: Historical record keeps the chronology grounded in established events; Historical inquiry compares evidence and interpretations; and Counterfactual explores clearly labelled alternate outcomes. A built‑in Timeline Tour lets you walk through the nodes as a single, text‑only story using side arrows or clickable dot indicators. This is useful for reading the timeline aloud in class or giving pupils a simple way to follow the path without worrying about the full tree. Create from Scenario : On the scenario result screen, click Generate Living Timeline . This is included with the scenario and does not charge extra credits. Or open Living Timelines and generate from your latest scenario. Create Empty Timeline : Start from scratch with Create Empty Timeline . Build custom timelines without requiring a pre-existing scenario. View & manage : Use Living Timelines to see and continue interactive timelines you've created. Edit : Select nodes to edit titles and narratives, add children, or delete. AI-Powered Suggestions : Use enhanced AI to suggest realistic branches with consequence modeling across political, economic, social, and technological domains. Auto-Extend : AI automatically extends timelines with historically plausible developments and cross-domain ripple effects. Historical Perspectives : Chat with AI-generated historical advisors who are contextually relevant to your timeline's era and scenario. Spanner in the Works : Random disruptive events can fire when you make choices, adding unexpected twists to your timeline. Immersive Mode : A full-screen reading experience with side-arrow navigation, era-themed backgrounds, and clickable dot indicators. Visibility : Private (authorised access only), Unlisted (anyone with the link), Public (shareable and eligible for public discovery). Education creation starts in Historical record mode so a class begins with a factual spine. Teachers can switch to inquiry or counterfactual mode when the learning objective calls for interpretation or contingency.
How do I share a Living Timeline?
Open your timeline (Header → Living Timelines → pick a timeline). In the sidebar, set Visibility to Unlisted or Public , then click Save . Click Copy Share Link . Send that URL to anyone—you don’t need an account to view. Viewers get a read-only page. To stop new public access, switch visibility back to Private and save. Illustrations and narration follow the same access rules; copies already downloaded or loaded cannot be recalled.
What are Guided Classroom Timelines?
A teacher turns a private Living Timeline into an evidence-led assignment: choose Historical record, Historical inquiry or Counterfactual, release appropriate branches and pin checked sources. Learners explore private routes without changing the teacher’s master. For the verified-institution route for ages 13–17, teachers can set a learning goal, situation, historical scope, journey length and final reflection. With AI permissions recorded, learners explore choices, consequences and Historical Perspectives, experience their chosen route as an immersive story, then submit a fixed story and reflection for private review. Adult teachers and eligible adult learners use the adult Education Hub. Learners aged 13–17 sign in at Learner sign-in with their own teacher-issued NHL- code. Their access never becomes an adult personal account. Adult classrooms retain their existing route and reflection tools, including classroom comparison where available. For restricted learners, teachers review private work and choose de-identified examples for discussion; there is no shared learner leaderboard. Explore assignment journeys · Read the education policy
Does the teacher set the question, and what does the learner do?
Yes. The teacher chooses the historical question or situation, learning goal, sources, boundaries and final reflection. They review and release the starting material. Learners aged 13–17 enter the verified institution’s private workspace with their own teacher-issued NHL- code; they do not need a personal email account or payment details. With the required AI permission enabled, learners generate choices, explore consequences and develop their own route without changing the teacher’s master. They check claims against the lesson evidence, experience the route as a story, then submit it with a reflection. AI supports exploration; the teacher reviews the reasoning and evidence.
Can learners leave an assignment and come back later?
Yes, while their institution access and assignment remain available. Completed timeline actions are saved privately. Choose Save reflection draft and wait for the saved confirmation before leaving; typing alone does not save a reflection. Return to Learner sign-in with the same learner code and reopen the assignment. The saved route and reflection draft are restored. After submission, reopen it to see teacher feedback, an optional assessment or a revision request. Other learners cannot see this private work.
How long can a classroom assignment or story be?
In the ages 13–17 institution workspace, teachers choose short (3 steps), standard (6), longer project (12), custom (1–30) or open-ended. A step is one moment after the opening on the selected route; alternative branches do not consume that route’s target. Narrative length also affects how long the story takes to read. A situation can be a dilemma, investigation, discovery, everyday-life question or historical change. Teachers set its learning goal, period and boundaries. They can allow exploration beyond the target. Open-ended removes the lesson target, not the institution allowance or saved timeline capacity. At a bounded endpoint, further branching from that moment pauses. Historical questions, comparison and review remain available within permissions and allowance. Auto-extension adds three steps within the teacher’s scope; use a single branch when fewer than three steps remain.
Can a learner experience their assignment as an immersive story?
Yes. Select the final moment of the chosen route and choose Experience your story . It starts at the opening and follows that route’s choices and consequences. Close the viewer to return to the endpoint and final reflection. This is an interactive story with available illustrations, narration and atmosphere, rather than a finished video or MP4 export. Viewing uses no credits. Optional new images and narration use the institution allowance; device read-aloud is available where supported. After submission, Watch submitted story opens the fixed saved copy. It can reopen media saved at submission, but cannot generate missing media into that copy.
What does a learner submit, and can they revise it?
For a configured institution journey, learners save a reflection draft and use Submit story & reflection once the selected route reaches its target. Open-ended assignments have no required step target. The reflection should explain choices, cite evidence and identify imagined outcomes or uncertainty; it accepts up to 4,000 characters. The submission saves the selected route, assignment context and reflection together. Later edits to the working timeline do not change that copy. A teacher can request a revision, allowing a new story and reflection to be submitted while preserving the earlier version. Use the newest submission when requesting changes to current work. Existing assignments keep their previous behaviour until the teacher uses Edit assignment journey . Changing settings requires renewed review before release for ages 13–17.
What can the teacher see, and is the game score a grade?
Under each learner’s AI permission & private work , the authorised classroom teacher can review private AI activity and submitted stories, reflections, saved resource scores and revision history. They can watch the submitted route, leave private feedback, add an optional 0–4 teacher assessment, mark it reviewed or request a revision. The automatic game score reflects timeline depth and simulated resources. It is separate from the teacher’s assessment of evidence, reasoning and reflection. Reaching an endpoint or viewing a story does not automatically certify learning. Other learners cannot see this private work; there is no shared learner scoreboard.
Which classroom activities use institution credits?
In the restricted ages 13–17 AI route, reading, navigation, existing-story viewing, manual branches, reflection drafts, submissions and teacher review do not use credits. Generating choices, a branch, suggestions, a history comparison or each Historical Perspectives question costs 1 institution credit. A three-step auto-extension or synthetic narration costs 2; an illustration costs 3. The interface shows costs and remaining allowance. Failed generation releases the reserved allowance. Institution AI arrangements and individual learner permission are required for AI use. Personal-account pricing, including adult conversation message bundles, does not apply to this restricted route. Allowance and access end with the package; there are no learner purchases or personal credits.
Who can access submitted classroom stories, and how long are they kept?
Classroom work and submissions are private to the learner and authorised classroom teacher, with Nexus access where needed for authorised support, security or safeguarding. Fixed submissions preserve the original route, reflection, assignment context and revision history for educational review. They are not published or used to train AI. For restricted learners aged 13–17, classroom records, submissions and revisions follow the education deletion schedule: 90 days after package expiry or recorded learner removal, on the daily cleanup. Institutions can request earlier deletion. Editing a working timeline does not delete an earlier submission. Separate provider logs and infrastructure backups have their own retention rules. Read about submissions and privacy
Can it suggest branches automatically?
Yes—use Suggest branches in the timeline’s right panel. You’ll get 2–3 proposed child nodes (title + short narrative) based on the currently selected node. Creative (default) : Broader but premise‑aware ideas to spark exploration. Strict : Tighter, near‑term developments closely following the current node. You stay in control : Pick which suggestions to add. Nothing changes until you accept. Mode-aware : Suggestions follow the timeline's record, inquiry or counterfactual lens. Grounded : Suggestions use the selected node’s text (and scenario context) to avoid drift. Tip: Start from the root node to continue directly from your scenario, or select any node to branch from that point.
What are Historical Perspectives?
Historical Perspectives lets you consult with AI-generated historical advisors who are contextually relevant to your timeline. Open the Characters tab to choose an advisor and ask about your timeline. These are fictional AI interpretations, and answers should be checked against historical sources. What is Spanner in the Works?
When you make a choice in your timeline, there's a chance a Spanner in the Works event will fire — an unexpected disruptive event that shakes up your resources and narrative. Events are AI-generated and contextually relevant to your timeline's era and current situation They can be positive (a windfall, discovery, or alliance) or negative (a revolt, famine, or betrayal) Each event affects your resources — you'll see the impact in a modal that appears after your choice Events add unpredictability and replayability to your timeline decisions Spanner events have no separate charge; they can accompany a paid choice-and-consequence action. Resource changes are simulation estimates, not historical measurements.

How do Living Timeline choices and resources work?
Living Timelines have an interactive decision system. When you select a node and open the Choices tab, you can generate AI-powered choices that branch your timeline. Here's how it all fits together: 📊 Resources (5 categories) Political Capital — Your influence over governments and institutions Economic Stability — Financial strength and trade capacity Social Support — Public opinion and popular backing Technological Progress — Scientific and industrial advancement Cultural Influence — Soft power, arts, and ideological reach Every timeline starts with 50 in each resource (max 100). Child nodes inherit their parent's resource levels. ⚡ Choices Click Generate Choices on the Choices tab to get 3 AI-generated options Each choice has a title , description , success rate , a resource cost , and a resource reward Costs (shown with - prefix) are what you spend — shown in red if you can't afford them Rewards (shown in green with + ) are what you gain — this is how you build resources back up Choices have a rarity (Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary) — rarer choices cost more but have bigger rewards If any single resource is below the required cost, you'll see "You do not have sufficient resources" When you click Choose , costs are deducted, rewards are added, and a new child node is created with an AI-generated narrative 💥 Consequences Every choice generates consequences that affect your resources Consequences have a domain (political, economic, social, tech, culture) and an impact value (positive or negative) Some consequences have a duration measured in turns View active consequences on the Consequences tab after making a choice 🏆 The Goal Master the Timeline — Get all 5 resources to 80 or above to achieve "Timeline Mastered" status Build Depth — The deeper your timeline branches, the higher your score Your Timeline Score (visible on the Analytics tab) combines depth, average resources, and mastery bonuses Earn ranks as you progress: Novice Explorer → Rising Leader → Skilled Strategist → Master Historian → Timeline Legend 🎮 Free to Play For personal adult timelines, the core gameplay loop is free . The restricted institution AI route has its own classroom credit rules : Create an empty timeline — free Create a timeline from a scenario — included Generate choices — free Make decisions & branch the story — free Compete on the Scoreboard — free Optional power features cost credits: Suggest Branches (1 credit) and Auto-extend to Present (2 credits). These are shortcuts — you never need them to play or win. 🧭 Strategy Tips Balance your resources — Don't drain one category to zero or you'll be locked out of future choices Pick high-reward choices — Green + numbers show what you gain. Rarer choices have bigger rewards Check costs before choosing — Red numbers mean you can't afford it Consequences cascade — A political decision may also affect economic stability Use Suggest Branches when you want AI to propose options quickly (costs 1 credit) Use Auto-extend to let the AI build a chain of nodes toward the present (costs 2 credits)

How do I play the CPU card game?
Open Game → Quick Match (CPU) . Select one of Your Characters (each has 8 stats: Military, Diplomacy, Economy, Culture, Innovation, Legitimacy, Mobility, Influence). Pick the stat you want to contest. The CPU will counter with its own card and may choose a better stat if it gives a higher margin. Click Play Round . The cards flip to reveal values. The loser flies off; scores update automatically. First to 4 points finishes the match. Click Resolve Round to settle the match on the server. CPU roster : The CPU is an automated account. If it has too few cards, the server will auto‑mint CPU cards on demand (no user credits used). Victory spoils : The vanquished card joins the winner's collection—history is written by the victors. Troubleshooting : If a round doesn’t start, make sure you’re signed in, a card is selected, and a stat is chosen. If you see a red toast, copy the message and share it—errors are shown verbatim from the server. Pro tips Choose your best stat against the CPU’s likely weak area. Watch your card’s top 2–3 stats. Look for momentum : consecutive wins build confidence; avoid contesting your lowest stats. Portrait clarity helps : Game portraits are high‑contrast for readable cards. Known issues “Auth required” : Sign in, then retry Play Round. “Failed to fetch” : Use the app over http(s), disable ad‑blockers for the site, and retry. “CPU has insufficient cards” : Retry; the server auto‑mints CPU cards on demand. No animation : If an error interrupts the round, fix the error then replay; the flip/flight animation runs only on successful rounds. Play now

What is the Time Portal?
The Time Portal creates an AI-assisted reconstruction of a selected place in a historical period. It can preserve your current camera angle or start from a place selected through search and the map. Open Time Portal from the main menu. Choose Use Current View to capture your camera angle, or Explore Another Place to search or choose a point on the map. Select one of the available historical periods, from Classical Antiquity to the late twentieth century. Review the place, period and credit cost before generating. The current credit cost is shown before generation. Completed reconstructions are saved automatically in My Gallery under the Time Portal filter.
Where does Time Portal get its historical accuracy?
Time Portal checks the historical and geographic services available for the selected place. Sources can include: DPLA (Digital Public Library of America) — US historical photographs from 40+ million items Library of Congress — Curated US government and archival photography collections Europeana — European cultural heritage images from museums and archives across Europe David Rumsey Map Collection — Historical maps showing accurate street layouts and geography Wikimedia Commons — Global historical images from public contributions OpenStreetMap — Precise landmark coordinates, building data, and architectural details Wikipedia — Historical context and era-specific information The generated picture is always identified as an Evidence-Based Reconstruction or an Illustrative Reconstruction . Matching archive photographs and maps are displayed separately as documentary records, with links back to their providers. A source match may cover the surrounding area rather than the exact camera position, so the original archive description, date and licence should be checked before reuse.
What is History Frame?
History Frame is a free, camera-based portrait tool. It places a photo you take on your device into a polished Nexus Historia historical frame—no credits required. Open History Frame from the main menu and allow camera access when prompted. Take a photo, choose a frame theme and select a square, portrait or story format. Can I record my calls with historical figures?
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Every great conversation deserves an archive. On Historical Figures, open Voice availability and recording settings and choose Save recordings to my Gallery . This setting applies to every figure. The app records your microphone and the figure's voice into a single audio file. When the call ends, the recording uploads automatically to your gallery. Find it under My Gallery → Call Recordings . Recording is included in the call cost ( 18 credits for a 10-minute block) — no extra charge. A portrait cover is auto-generated so your gallery stays looking sharp.
Where can I find my creations?
Everything you create is saved to your account. Visit My Gallery to view, manage, and share your work. Use the filter pills at the top to narrow down by type: Scenarios — Your what-if reports and generated media Stories — Your StoryBook adventures and their exports Audio Tours — Narrated multi-chapter tours Call Recordings — Conversations with historical figures Timelapses — Map-based animated histories Videos — Video Studio Morphs and other saved video creations Timeline Explorer — Saved interactive timeline material Time Portal — AI-generated historical views of real places The Public Gallery has the same filters, so you can browse what the community has shared too.
Can I download and share?

Do I need to be signed in?
You can browse public galleries, shared public pages and the free timeline preview without signing in. Sign in or create a free account when you want to create, save, manage or share your own work; use member messaging; redeem education access; or call historical figures.
How do education packages and institution codes work?
For adults aged 18+, Package Plus is an education entitlement rather than a timeline-only licence: for the package period, each learner can use the standard Nexus Historia app as well as the guided classroom tools. The package includes an agreed individual credit allowance, package dates and the selected safety and messaging settings. Education credits are used before any personal credits and expire with the package. Credit-consuming tools stop when the learner's allowance is exhausted, so the offer does not promise unlimited AI or media generation. Premium Morph video is restricted for managed learner accounts by default because it uses selfie and audio generation. An authorised institution administrator creates and activates the package in the managed education dashboard, then receives a private code in the format NH-XXXXX-XXXXX . The administrator gives that adult joining code to the intended adult learners only. Each learner creates or signs in to their own Nexus Historia account, opens Education , enters the code and selects Activate access . When it is valid, the learner place and allocated credits are attached to that individual account. The Education page then shows the institution, membership status, credit allocation and access end date. Full app access: while the package is active, the learner can use standard signed-in features across Nexus Historia, not only the teacher's assigned Living Timeline. Defined usage: every learner has their own credit allowance. Each credit-consuming action shows its cost, and an action cannot start when the learner's balance is too low. For a guided class, an authorised teacher creates a private classroom and shares its separate classroom code. Learners join that class only after institution access is active. After expiry: the classroom entitlement and education allowance end automatically, but the learner's account, personal gallery, saved timelines and any personal credits remain. They can keep signing in and use Nexus Historia as a regular member, even if they never buy more credits. Learners aged 13–17 use a separate teacher-issued NHL- code at /education/learn through a verified institution. They can explore reviewed assignments and, once AI arrangements and learner permissions are recorded, generate private branches, consequences, historical conversations, illustrations and narration using their institution allowance. Teachers can review their work and content concerns. Configured assignments include flexible journey lengths, immersive endings, fixed story submissions and teacher feedback or revisions. They have no personal account or personal credits and never become regular members after expiry. See /education/policy. Institution access remains the gate for every classroom action. A code will not activate if the package is not active yet, has expired, has no learner places remaining, or has already been redeemed by that account. Institutions can enquire about Package Plus from the Education page.
How do credits work?
Credits power generative steps like creating scenarios, rendering media, or adding extras like audio tours. You'll see your balance in the header and on the Credits page. Each action shows its cost before you start. New users receive 15 free credits on signup to get started. Living Timeline core: creating a starting timeline, manual edits, reading and navigation are free. Adult AI choices and consequences are paid; see personal timeline credit rules . Restricted classroom drafts, submissions and review are also free; classroom AI choices, generated branches and historical questions use institution credits. See classroom credit rules . Timeline Generator video (720p) : 15 credits Timeline Generator video (1080p) : 20 credits Audio Tour (typical) : ~10 credits Morph Video (Veo 3.1) : 80 (720p) / 100 (1080p) credits Map Timelapse : 12 (720p) / 16 (1080p) credits Historical Perspectives (Living Timelines) : 1 credit per 10 messages Node Illustration (Living Timelines) : 3 credits per image Node Narration (Living Timelines) : 2 credits per narration Nexus Messages and Circles : free to send messages, react, join Circles, and share existing creations The shown price is confirmed before you start. Charging and failure handling vary by feature. Some generation jobs reserve or deduct credits when started and restore them on a reported failure. Check the job status and credit balance before retrying; contact Support if a charge remains without a usable result. Historical-figure calls reserve credits during connection and finalise the charge when established.
When do call credits start?
The updated call flow checks microphone access first, then reserves the displayed credits while connecting. A successful connection finalises the charge. Unconnected attempts are checked automatically after the connection token expires, normally within 25 minutes; provider outages or ambiguous evidence may need Support review. Ending a successfully established call early does not automatically restore credits. You’ll see the cost and included minutes before you start. You can opt to save call recordings to your gallery—saving does not add extra cost. Tip: For the best audio experience, use a headset and a stable connection.

What are “Story Style” presets?
Style presets change the look and shot grammar—your timeline story stays the same, the presentation changes. Chronicle : Documentary realism, era‑accurate, balanced color. Epic Highlights : Dramatic, richer color, heroic framing. Antiquity : Warm sepia, subtle archival feel. Renaissance : Painterly grade with chiaroscuro emphasis. Mythic Legend : Awe‑tinged realism with gentle light bloom, god‑rays, and heroic silhouettes (still historically grounded). Credit prices vary by feature and options. The price shown in the creation screen before starting is the current price.
Which AI services power this?
Text & images : OpenAI models create written material and images for supported features. Video : specialist video-generation services are used for Video Studio, supported scenario video and cinematic StoryBook scenes. Voice : OpenAI text-to-speech and ElevenLabs support narration and live historical-figure conversations where available. 3D : specialist 3D-generation services create compatible figurine models. Storage : Supabase stores account creations and the media needed to reopen, download or share them. Providers and models can change as services improve; the feature's on-screen controls and pricing are the current source of truth before you generate anything.

Something looks stuck. What do I try?
Read the current status first. A delayed response is not necessarily a failed generation. Reopen the saved creation from its library and check whether a result has arrived before starting another paid request. Save any manual edits before refreshing. For a Living Timeline image or narration that will not load, use its loading retry when offered. Retrying access to saved media does not generate a new asset. If access was changed to private, sign in with an authorised account or ask the owner. Restricted classroom learners should reopen the assignment with their own learner code. If AI is paused, access has expired or a concern is awaiting review, ask the teacher. Use Save reflection draft and wait for confirmation before leaving. If a failed job still has a charge or cannot be reopened, contact Support with the creation title, approximate time and any request reference shown. Do not create another paid copy just to resolve the first one.
Where do my creations live?
Your scenarios and generated media are saved to your account’s library. Reopen a scenario any time to review the images, report, timeline beats, and supporting evidence.
Any pro tips?
Pick a clear, punchy scenario title. Future-you will thank you. Use captions to explain hidden context; they double as notes for presentations.
How do I subscribe or unsubscribe from emails?
Use the newsletter form on the homepage or footer to subscribe. For an existing verified subscription, use Profile’s email preferences to manage newsletters, Scenario of the Month and creation reminders. Marketing emails include an unsubscribe link. Necessary account, security and purchase emails are separate. Unsubscribing does not delete your account.
What does a suppressed email address mean?
Suppression prevents marketing delivery, for example after an unsubscribe, bounce or complaint. It is not the same as deleting your account. If you want to subscribe again but cannot, contact Support; we should not override delivery blocks without checking the reason and your request.
How do I delete my account?
Open Profile → Account deletion and confirm the request with your password. Deletion is scheduled with 30 days to cancel. Your public creations are hidden and marketing emails stopped. Signing in alone does not cancel deletion: choose Cancel account deletion in Profile before the scheduled date. After deletion, saved creations and unused credits cannot be recovered. Required payment records are retained separately. Contact Support if the self-service option is unavailable or a subscription prevents deletion.
Are my voice recordings private?
Saved call recordings are private by default. Turning Gallery recording off stops that saved mixed-audio file; it does not stop the voice provider processing the conversation to answer you. Provider-side transcripts or logs may be separate from the Gallery recording. Avoid sharing sensitive information and review the Privacy Policy before calling.
Are these real voices and historically accurate answers?
No. Figures are AI interpretations with selected synthetic voices, not the real people or verified recreations of their voices. Conversations are set in the displayed time and place, but AI can make mistakes. Check important claims against reliable historical sources. These conversations are not professional advice.
What if payment succeeds but my credits are missing?
Return to the site after Stripe checkout and check your credit balance. If it has not updated, contact Support with the receipt or checkout reference, purchase time and account email. Do not send your card number or buy again just to resolve the first purchase.
How do I request a refund or cancel a purchase?
Contact Support with your order reference and the problem. Credit restoration after a failed generation is different from a refund to your payment method. Statutory cancellation rights and remedies for faulty digital content or services still apply; using the site does not automatically waive them. See the Terms for the purchase and cancellation information.
How do I request my data or raise a privacy concern?
Contact privacy@daily-mindset-moments.com with the account email and the request. We may need to verify your identity. You can request access, correction or deletion, and exercise other applicable data-protection rights. Never send your password. The Privacy Policy explains these rights and how to complain to the ICO.
What is the minimum age, including for institution learners?
Personal accounts and adult institution accounts remain 18+. Learners aged 13–17 may use only the separate restricted classroom through verified institutions, with a teacher-issued learner code. Under-13s are not eligible. Institutions check ages and approve access. Ordinary institution joining codes and parental permission do not unlock the adult app. Restricted access never converts to a personal account when the package ends or the learner turns 18. Read the education policy · Learner sign-in
Do purchased or education credits expire?
Purchased personal credits do not expire. Education allowances are separate and follow the package expiry shown by the institution. Eligible education credits are used first. For adult personal accounts, package expiry does not expire purchased personal credits or delete saved personal work. Restricted learners aged 13–17 instead follow the classroom access and deletion rules in the education policy.
